Cupcake Stall @ School Fair

Here's our cupcake stall @ my boys' School Fair..

What was in store?
- Vanilla Cupcakes with Buttercream Frosting
- Chocolate Cupcakes with Chocolate Buttercream Frosting
- Banana Cupcakes with Lemon Frosting
- Oreo Cupcake Cones with Buttercream Frosting
- Jam Muffins

One important thing that I learnt today...it's the adults that go for the cupcakes. NOT the kids. I seriously thought it would be the kids, thus have iced most of my vanilla cupcakes with kiddy decor like dinosaur gummies, sharks, gummies in the shape of burgers/hotdogs and teddy bears.
I guess... NEXT TIME, I'll just pipe swirls, stars and rosettes to cater for the little kid in all of us.
:-)

Nevertheless, I'm quite happy with today's sales... enjoyed myself both at the stall and under the champagne tent!

THANK YOU FOR YOUR SUPPORT!

And I hope you had a deliciously frosty time enjoying the cupcakes!

Packaged!

A Touch of Frost Cakes... Packaging.
Nice or not?
And I painted our logo onto one of my old canvas for tomorrow's School Fair.
(shown here with two boxes of cupcakes to be delivered to two friends)
This is how I frosted the cupcakes...

Feeling Blue?

Ice-Cream Cone Cupcakes

Yes. Cupcakes in an Ice-Cream Cone.

Yes. As in I baked them IN the cone.

No. I didn't stuff the baked cupcake into the cone.

Soft Serve-Cones
I had a little "collision" of the cones on the way out from the kitchen to the dining table..thus the slightly smashed up swirls.... :-)
These with Slightly less Buttercream!
No Buttercream but Chocolate Covered Instead

Roses are Red....

Chocolate is brown; Eat a cupcake, if you're feeling down. Er, maybe I'll just stick to baking! ;p These are banana cupcakes (top row) and vanilla cupcakes (bottom row) with chocolate buttercream frosting.

Very Berry Lemon Cheesecake

Ah, one of the few non-cupcake posts! So far. I made this lemon cheesecake a few days ago for my dad. I've been baking a lot of chocolate cakes lately and he's not a fan. So I thought I'd make him something that he likes. It's essentially a lemon cheesecake, no berries whatsoever inside the cake. I just added the berries on top. The recipe actually calls for gelatine but I put thickened cream instead. So it's kinda soft but still yummy, without the gelatine-y taste. At first, I put strawberries, blueberries and raspberries. But because the cheesecake was quite soft and the strawberries quite heavy, the whole thing just went 'plop'! hehehhe. So I had to take the strawberries out. My dad enjoys it very much without the berries though :)

More on Fondant...

Did my previous post on fondant scare you???

Hope not!

Here are some fondant work... after a nice BIG CUP OF LATTE!

Banana Cupcake vs. Banana Cupcake

Don't know if I've mentioned before, but I'll be selling cupcakes and muffins at my boys' school fair/ carnival/whatchamacallit this Sunday. Thus, have been wondering which banana cupcake recipe I should use. The moist and dense version with lemon frosting, OR the light, soft and fluffy version with cream cheese frosting.

I tell you.... Different people do INDEED have different tastes! My taste test over the weekend with some moms and kids proved that. Some liked the rich, moist banana texture. Some preferred the fluffier version for a cupcake. Some liked the tangy taste of lemon. Others preferred the creamy taste of the cream cheese.

So which am I gonna make?
Decided to go with the fluffier version but with lemon frosting. And maybe some with chocolate buttercream...

Anyway, here are some pictures from the taste test. I haven't really taken the time to do proper decoration .....LAZEEEEEEEEEE !!!

Even too lazy to wait!
Here, cupcakes were not yet totally cool before I slap-on the lemon frosting.

The following 3 photos are all banana cupcakes with cream cheese frosting....made the following day.

The Rocky Horror Show?

Is this the character from 'The Rocky Horror Show'?

'Frankenstein's Bride'???

Or Worse?
Your MOTHER-IN-LAW ??????

This is one very good reason why one should NOT do any moulding works at 5.00 AM in the morning! This was the morning that I had 7 boisterous boys sleeping-over at my house. Mmmm....maybe that was how I looked then!

Anyway, here are nicer figurines that I've moulded before (i.e. when I was more sane and awake???). I thought that I should include these in this post, lest you guys think that I'm really bad at this. :-D

Cookies!

Baked some chocolate chip cookies today......wah......think the last time I baked cookies was when I was 16! Can't remember where I got this recipe from but I think it's a little too sweet for me so the next time I make this, I gotta remember to put less sugar!

ORDER, ORDER!

A friend ordered these moist chocolate cupcakes with creamy peanut butter frosting for his ex-boss. Within minutes of delivering the cupcakes, my friend called me and said that his ex-boss had called him to say that she loved them. I have to admit, they are really really yummy! No, no, I'm not blowing my own horn! Hmmmm.......okay, maybe I am ;p But if you have just a bite, ONE bite, I'm sure you'll agree with me how absolutely heavenly they are! Unless you hate peanut butter ;p I have a little confession - after I finish frosting all the cakes, I clean up the bowl ala Nigella. Shhhh!

My only offering

Haven't had much time to bake lately, so not much to show for.
Had promised my work colleagues I'd make some cupcakes for our last meeting before the Easter break, so despite coming home at about 10:00pm, I made these cupcakes late into the night!!

Easter Cupcakes - Carrot cupcakes with cream-cheese icing, with a Lindt bunny slapped on top!

Think I'm not going to make cupcakes using clear/white paper cases anymore - don't like how they look. In retrospect, they would've look so much cuter with dark green paper cases - bunnies on grass!

I'll be getting my in-law's Kenwood, so hopefully I'll be more hardworking with the baking!

Little Lions

A friend ordered some cupcakes for his son's 2nd birthday. Since the little man loves lions, I thought I make some furry golden lion cupcakes. The single cupcake with a ringlet of flower is for the candles. Was going to attempt 'The Lion King' but thought that was a bit too ambitious for 8pm, night before order is due. What do you think?

Funny Faces

Baked vanilla cupcakes today and decided to make some funny faces insted of the usual swirl coz I was feeling a little lazy to mix the colour of the icing.....hmmm.....does looked a bit plain. Defintely need a little more colour.........

Puppy Love (Dog Cupcake)

Everybody together now, "And they call it.....puppy looooooove...". Erm, that's the only line I know from the song. I made this from the same batch of banana cupcakes with cream cheese frosting as the little piggies. I was experimenting making different animals. I made the piggies which I thought were kinda cute, this puppy which is also cute although a bit cock-eyed, a cow, a sheep and a cat. Alas, the others didn't turn out nice. The cat was okay but could be better, so I'm not gonna put up the picture. I said to DH, "Can you guess what that is?", pointing to the 'cow'. He went "Er, erm, it's a.......er.......". So I guess I have to experiment more ;p

Token of Appreciation...

Both my boys had a sleepover at a friend's house..... giving H and I romantic couple time. Thus, as a token of appreciation for having my two boisterous boys, baked her these Chocolate Cupcakes with Chocolate Buttercream Frosting.

She said her boys absolutely loved the taste of these cupcakes!

London A-Calling...

Happy flowers

Made these for an office party. Everyone loved the flower power feel of them.

Bunnies

Carrot cupcakes with cream cheese frosting won't be complete without bunnies!

First attempt at Icing

My first attempt at icing the cupcakes. Think these were the nicest as my subsequent attempts are rather sad looking......

The English Rose?

I piped this. NICE??

Mini "Tasters" for School

Made some mini cupcakes for my older boy's class last week. He requested that I make 2-dozen as "tasters" in preparation for my Bake Sale at the School Carnival on the 31st of May. These were frosted half-heartedly after my CLUMSY incident. Well, you see...I've lovingly frosted about half a dozen of cupcakes, left them of a plate on top of the microwave oven. I don't know what came over me that with a swing of my arm. The whole plate fell. BOY! Was I upset!

Anyway, here they are...Apparently, the simple "slap on the icing and colourful sprinkles" were more popular than the piped ones with flowers! I supposed the kids were attracted by the bright colours. What do you think?

The Three Little Pigs (Pig Cupcakes)

No big bad wolf though. The first time I made these was a year ago for my younger son's birthday party as party favours (he was born in the Year of the Pig). I made them again recently just for fun. This time, I had smaller-sized marshmallows. So it actually looks like the pigs have lost weight :) The top picture is the one from last year (they were vanilla cupcakes with vanilla buttercream) and the bottom one is the recent one (these were banana cupcakes with cream cheese frosting). Are they cute, or are they cute? :)

Lazy Sunday Morning...

What would be better on a bright Sunday Morning...other than savoring a warm chocolate cupcake and a hot cup of aromatic coffee out on the terrace?

Happy Belated Mother's Day!

Vanilla Cupcakes with Vanilla Buttercream Frosting

These cupcakes are dedicated to all the mummies and mummies-to-be out there :)

Dear Reader.....Welcome to the Beginning!

If you, dear reader, love the smell of cookies baking in the oven, or salivate at the sight of swirly frosting towering delicately over a cupcake, or the feel of biting into a macaron (crispy on the outside, chewy on the inside), then welcome!

This blog is to chart our various baking adventures and we would like to share our journey with you. Who are ‘we’? We’re a group of six (yes, you read that right!) lazy, greedy sisters who love to bake (hmmm….is that an oxymoron, ‘we are lazy but we love to bake’?) and especially love to eat. Cupcakes, cakes, cookies……anything and everything sweet, really.

Mum and Dad have a tough time keeping up with us, since we’re pretty much spread across the globe - Jakarta, Kuala Lumpur, London, Melbourne and Singapore.

We share our recipes, so all our cakes will taste the same. You will probably see different posts and pictures from different people but the prettiest ones will of course be the one from Singapore (heheh, nobody wins a prize for guessing who’s writing this post!).

We hope you’ll enjoy reading our blog and will let us know what you think.

Ladies...let the baking commence! :)
