Yellow and Orange....

Remember the birthday party PINK cupcakes that I baked and frosted yesterday? I got an additional order for the birthday girl to share with her classmates at school on Monday. But this time, the colours are to be YELLOW and ORANGE.

And since I was already at it, I frosted the Cafe cupcakes YELLOW and ORANGE too....

More Pink!

Got an order of 50 cupcakes for a friend's daughter and since it is a little girl, of course it will be PINK! Heh....we seemed to be having the pink fever at A Touch of Frost Cakes. =P As usual, my photography skills need to be questioned, therefore it is a bit dark. I did try to take under the sunlight to get the colours out but dark clouds were looming outside the house so fat chance for me to get a decent photo.

I know there are definitely no 50 cupcakes in there, yes I can count. It's just that the shop ran out of the big boxes so this is the biggest that I could find. Had to put the rest into another smaller box. Yes yes, there are two extra so it's not exactly 50 (I can still count). It was just to fill up the holes and this is a friend, so what the hell right? Heh......as usual, the kids loved the icing. I was thinking maybe I should just sell the icing for kids' parties, that will sure be a big hit(for the kids of course, don't think the mommies will be too pleased though)!!! What do you think?

PINK! PINK! PINK!

After looking at all the recent PINK cupcakes made by my sisters recently, I was thus bitten by the PINK bug.....

I had two separate functions on Thursday - a coffee morning and a farewell lunch. What would be better than PINK cupcakes for a ladies get-together? I baked a BIG batch of mini cupcakes and frosted them in different shades of PINK.

For the Coffee Morning
The batch for the Farewell Lunch was exactly the same as above...

At the Coffee Morning, one of the moms from school ordered a batch of mini's for her daughter's birthday party this Saturday, i.e. today. :-)
As her daughter is into PINK, .....what do we have?

PINK Cupcakes!

I also had an order for a dozen of standard-sized cupcakes from hubby's colleague... another guy with a particularly sweet tooth. No. Not Cupcake Lover. :-)
Since I was in the groove of PINK PINK PINK, he gets PINK cupcakes too!

I just love to see them in the boxes...all tied up with the ribbons.

When he saw the cupcakes, he said these looked better than the last ones. I told H "that's because you didn't help me to decorate with the sprinkles!" hahahahahha...
Yes. Didn't you notice? There is NO multi-coloured sprinkles in sight! ...Hubby was away at work on Thursday and couldn't HELP me...and today, he was too tired to lift a finger.

Purple Butterflies

A very nice lady ordered these chocolate cupcakes with vanilla buttercream frosting for her daughter's friends' mothers (that was quite a mouthful, wasn't it?). She ordered two dozen but requested that they be packaged into boxes of fours. She wanted to thank them for something (not sure of the story behind it but it's none of my business, is it?) and what better way to thank someone than with cupcakes?

Hot Hot Day!

Baked some cupcakes for sister the other day but my buttercream icing was melting big time! I donno what caused it. My eldest sister once said that my hand is just too warm to hold the icing bag therefore causing it to melt(what to do.......I am a HOT blooded woman!) but this time, I seriously do not think it's my hand. Hmmmm.....maybe it is the heat. It was afterall a very, very hot day when I was doing these.

Feeling blue...

Blue and Orange....

The colours requested for today's order......

BLUE and ORANGE

Again....I had a hard time STOPPING my hubby from adding all sorts of sprinkles on the cupcakes (see previous post). I suggested ONLY blue flowers for the ones with orange frosting, and vice-versa....but again, he had other plans! There are some hundreds-n-thousands on the blue ones... and flowers of all sorts of colours (including pink, purple and what-nots!) on the orange ones..... I kept telling him BLUE and ORANGE ONLY!!!!!!

I giveeeeeee UP!

Anyway, while H was leaving the office yesterday....carrying some empty cupcake containers, he bumped into one of his colleagues..whom proceeded to order some cupcakes as well.
There were also some extra cupcakes...which my older boy will share with his mates! Btw, these sprinkles are done by me.... I should have asked hubby to do it since he enjoys doing it soooooooo much!!!!

Sprinkles Overload????

Yes. Jakarta Frosted in back in Jakarta.... after 5 weeks away on holiday!

We received two orders for delivery on Monday.... a dozen from the Cafe at hubby's office building, and another dozen from Cupcake Lover. And since Monday was also the start of the new School Year, we baked extras for our boys to share with their school mates. We baked both vanilla and chocolate cupcakes. Why have I used "we" instead of "I"??? That's because my hubby has been helping out in our little baking venture. He actually baked this batch of vanilla cupcakes. Though I piped the buttercream onto the cupcakes, he had a hand on the sprinkles. A HEAVY hand, I might add! ......till it's like SPRINKLES OVERLOAD!!!! What do you think?

Dozen for the Cafe

Dozen for Cupcake Lover

Whereas I would prefer something plain and simple like this.....

So Long, Farewell....

...Auf Wiedersehen, Adieu!

We went to a leaving party organised by one of the mothers of my older son's schoolfriends. His kindergarten is very international and there are many mat salleh (caucasian) kids. His friends are French, German, Russian, English, Czech and Japanese as well as Singaporeans. Most of his friends have already left to go to international schools, since their term starts in August/Sept. My son will be going to a local school, so he doesn't leave his kindergarten until December.

Everyone was asked to bring some food/drinks and of course, I brought cupcakes. Heh, what else? I made chocolate and vanilla cupcakes with vanilla buttercream frosting. I coloured blue for the boys and pink for the girls, and piped the children's names on each cupcake. I also had cut-out fondant to spell out the school's name, The Children's Place. I was very pleased with them and I'm glad they were very well-received!

Chocolate and Yellow Roses

I had an order for chocolate and vanilla cupcakes with chocolate and vanilla buttercream frosting. It was an order of 24 cupcakes but I had to put four in a box and the rest in another. I wasn't sure what sized box would fit 20 cupcakes, so I just got the boxes that I have available and fit 10 cupcakes into one box. As you can see, the box is still too big. I was very worried that the cupcakes might topple over. But I got a call after I delivered them, saying they were great and going like 'hot cakes', so I guess they were okay! Hmmm....but should I tape the bottom of the cupcakes to the box in future?

Pink Again!

These are chocolate cupcakes with vanilla buttercream frosting. Pink, pink, pink! I guess I'm going through a pink phase ;p

baking down under

Photos, as promised. I don't know how to edit the photos with the "A Touch of Frost Cakes" text; although I am positive it's not aesthetically pleasing enough for people to want to curi my photos.

Chocolate Cake

I baked a chocolate cake for hubby to take to work - needless to say, they all work on Excel spreadsheets all day long. Wasn't too happy about my icing, but my dear sister FrostyD has helped me identify what went wrong. Can't wait to try it again!

I haven't yet gotten my MIL's bazooka Kenwood mixer, so cupcake-baking has been put on hold for a while. I did, however, venture into muffin-baking, since it didn't need much mixing:

Strawberry-Chocolate Muffins

Cherry Crunch Muffins

I started baking berry muffins because they have been in season and soooo cheap - at times you could get around AUD5-7 per kilogram of strawberries or cherries. Only thing is that they're usually quite ripe, and would need to be cooked or consumed relatively soon after purchase.

I wonder what, and when, will be my next berry venture..?

Coffee and Walnut Cupcakes

Sister no. 3 was visiting, so I made her these cupcakes as I remembered her saying that she likes coffee and walnut (yes, I'm a very nice sister *ahem*ahem*). This recipe is from Cupcakes by Sue McMahon and I find it much nicer than the previous coffee and walnut cake that I made a couple of months back.

Pink Layer Cake

I had friends over for tea last weekend and I decided that I didn't want to make cupcakes nor a cheesecake (which are what I usually make when I have guests over). I settled on a sponge cake baked in two sandwich tins. I had chocolate buttercream leftover, so I put that in in the middle between the two cakes. The outer frosting was just vanilla buttercream. Pink because I was feeling girly....hhehehehe.
I must admit, I can't do layer cakes very well. I don't know why but they just don't stick! After I cut the first slice, the whole thing just went topsy-turvy! Okay, slight exaggeration there but the top layer slid down a bit. How do I make the two layers stick together? Any suggestions?

Bye Bye K!!!

A good friend and colleague, K, is off on maternity leave from today. Sigh...no more gossips over coffee and breaking out into weird dance moves in the pantry. Will miss you!!

Blueberry and Maple Syrup Cupcakes

I made these blueberry and maple syrup cupcakes for my almost-six-year-old and his friends. There was no special occasion. I made them because he asked me. He was leafing through one of my cupcake books - Cupcakes by Sue McMahon - and going "Hmm, this looks nice!" "Oh, this looks yummy!" Then he asked me why don't I try to make all the different cupcakes in that book. I was like, "Er, I don't think so!" I asked him to choose one and he chose this one. Of course, the picture in the book looked infinitely better than this one. But it tastes really good, and not sickeningly sweet either.
Back to trying to make every single cupcake in the book. Maybe I should set myself a challenge. Like the Cupcake Queen (check out http://52cupcakes.blogspot.com/). She has challenged herself to make ALL 175 recipes in Martha Stewart's Cupcakes: 175 Inspired Ideas for Everyone's Favorite Treat. She is on the sixth one now. There are actually a couple of recipes there I would like to try myself.
Anyway, can I make every single recipe in a book? Hmmm...........................probably not! WAY too lazy ;p I know I don't have to make them all in a few weeks or whatever, but what if there's something there that I dislike? Do I have to try making them too? So, let's just leave all this to the 'professionals'! :D

Happy Birthday P!

It is my friend, P's birthday today and she loves chocolate cakes so decided to bake these for her. It was quite funny when I was doing this because my oven is still conked so I STILL have to go over to my sister's house to make these. There was actually a problem with the weighing machine and I didn't realise it until I have put in the cocoa powder TOGETHER with the flour. Aiyoh........damn cia latt.....so I have to wing it andslowly get the weight right, albeit wrong proportion of flour to cocoa powder I think. The texture that came out was not as fluffy as how we would normally make it but still good so thank god! At least I did not have to make more because I was quite tired by then already.

By the way, I did have big plans to make one batch of 25 cupcakes so I can rolled the fondant and cut out "HAPPY BIRTHDAY" but a lot of my friends are very healthy people and they only eat one or half or sometimes even none of the cupcakes. I always feel very sad when I see a lot of my cupcakes left so I rather not waste it and give less to them and then the rest to other people who will actually finish it. Hmmm.....actually, I donno if they are healthy or they just don't like my cupcakes. Anyway, like I said, I would rather give to other people who love and finish everything! I'm sure anyone who bakes or cooks could relate to what I am saying right?

Thank You Cupcakes

I made these lemon cupcakes as a Thank You to my son's schoolteachers for taking care of our turtle while we were away. It is very belated as we have been back from our holiday for more than two weeks! When my hubby saw me making them last night, he said, "You mean you still haven't given them yet?" And when I took them to school this morning, my almost-six-year-old asked me what they were for and I told him. "NOW only you're giving them??" was his response. Sigh, sor-rie!

I actually meant to make a turtle topper, either with fondant or marshmallow or something. But lazy me decided to just have a swirl and a flower on the cupcake. What can I say? I think laziness is in my genes ;p. Sisters, what do you think??

The lemon cupcakes were light and moist. And the frosting was whipped white chocolate and lemon ganache. There was no icing sugar in the frosting but it was still very sweet. I have to say, I'm not a fan of white chocolate but this frosting works well. One bad thing is the heat though. I had to switch on the air-conditioning while I was frosting the cakes. Even then, it wasn't quite enough. Oh, well. I hope the teachers enjoyed them anyway.

Red Velvet with Cream Cheese Frosting

Never had red velvet cupcakes before so I thought I give it a try. The cake was a little dense for my taste but my Client loves it! I guess different people have different tastes.

Chocolate Cake. Again.

A friend's colleague ordered this chocolate cake for, very obviously from the picture, her mum's birthday. This order was taken through my friend, R, but I didn't know that until yesterday! Let me explain. A week ago, R called me and said "My colleague wants to order your chocolate cake. How much is it?", etc, etc. I told her I'd get back to her. So later, I texted her the price and to let me know if her colleague was still interested in ordering. She replied, "Yes. I have giver her your contact details." Ok, at this point, I just assumed that her colleague would contact me directly to place the order.
A few days later, I texted R and said, "I still haven't heard from your colleague. Please tell her that if she wants the cake for Sat, to order by Thursday". R replied, "Yes, she still wants to order. I have already given her your number and address". And I STILL thought her colleague would call me herself to order the cake. Then yesterday, I texted R and said, "Er, you are not the middleman for your colleague, right? She still hasn't contacted me, so it means she doesn't want to order right?" R replied, "My dear, I confirmed that she wants to order when you texted me". Hmmm..... it would've been very awkward if her colleague turned up at my doorstep to collect a non-existent cake! ;p
Okay, was I a dodo or would you have made the same mistake? Er..........no, don't answer that :)
